Art Class at North Jackson is designed to teach a visual arts standard-based curriculum, with lessons at each grade level that are grade appropriate.
The 1st nine weeks covers drawing and shading skills and coloring techniques in pencil, colored pencils, crayons and color sticks, subjects from our imagination and from observation of real settings, while focusing on the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design.
The 2nd nine weeks focuses on Painting Techniques and the study of famous painters. The 3rd nine weeks focuses on Mixed Media projects like collage and printmaking.
The 4th nine weeks focuses on 3D art like polymer clay, paper mache’, and self hardening clay projects.
We also try to include a project through Art To Remember, a company that turns student artwork into usable products and keepsakes, while raising money for the art program! Parents always look forward to this to use as gift ideas for family members!
Art Class is always structured so that the student can work quietly and bring out his or her most creative thoughts and ideas, while learning to show respect for art materials, the classroom, and classmates. We develop great work habits, and we even have art discussions about our work to give each other feedback. Art class is such a wonderful setting to express ourselves creatively, constructively and positively, and to feel proud of who we are, and who we are becoming as artists and young ladies and gentlemen!
So what will YOU create today?!
